Programs
Classes meet Thursdays at Faith Lutheran Church at 9am. We begin with an opening assembly for prayer, family presentations, and announcements. Once completed, students head off to Foundations classes.

Foundations (K4-6th)
Foundations on Community Day
Children along with one of their parents attend class together to learn the first skill of learning: how to memorize anything in a fun and engaging atmosphere. Students learn history, science, geography, latin, English grammar, math, and timeline facts. They also make a short presentation to their class in order to learn the skills of public speaking. In addition, students participate in a weekly science and fine arts project. Class sizes are small, with no more than 8 students per class and are led by a trained tutor, who is also a CC parent.
Ages 4 to 11* meet weekly for 24 weeks in the mornings. (*ages are approximate)
Foundations at Home
So you've had a fun, learning filled community day. Now what do you do at home the other four week days?
Start with the 4 R's:
wRiting: Handwriting, cursive, copy work.
Recitation: Spend 15-30 minutes reciting and reviewing the memory work by listening to the songs, quizzing, or playing games. The focus should be on learning the grammar-memorizing the facts presented in class.
aRithmetic: Choose a complete math curriculum for your students to use at home. This will be in addition to the math facts they learn in Foundations. Popular math curriculums among CC families include Math U See, Saxon, and Singapore.
Reading: If your student is a fluent reader, then they'll need to be reading on their own and telling you or journaling about what they've read. If they're still building fluency, choose a phonics curriculum to complete. Spend time reading aloud to your family. Popular reading/phonics curriculums among CC families include Explode the Code, 100 Easy Lessons, and IEW Pal.
Start with the 4 R's. If you find that your student wants or needs more, then add more throughout the year.

Essentials (4th-6th)
At 1:00 in the afternoon, after the Foundations program and a lunch break, students grab their notebooks and pencils and head to a classroom to learn all about English grammar and writing with their friends. Essentials is a complete language arts program. Students compose sentences and learn the rules of writing by talking about them (what we call the dialectic model). Parents learn about English grammar and writing, too, because they attend class with their students. They watch a parent tutor model the lesson so that they can continue the lesson at home. In class each week, students spend 45 minutes learning and practicing English grammar, 30 minutes playing math games to increase speed and accuracy, and 45 minutes learning writing and composition skills. After learning writing skills in class, students return the following week to present their completed composition to the class.
Ages 9 to 12 meet weekly for 24 weeks from 1-3pm. (Ages are approximate)

Challenge (7th-12th*)
Challenge is an aptly named program covering a full curriculum of subjects for middle and high school students. There are six levels: A, B, I, II, III, and IV. Typically students begin A when they are 12 and progress through each level completing Challenge IV as a senior, but older students are welcome in any level so you might find a 13 or 14 year old in Challenge A. The course work is sufficiently challenging to accommodate an older student. We identify Challenge “levels” rather than grades because we want students to enroll in the level they are prepared to study.
Meets weekly for 30 weeks
